Webern, Anton (Friedrich Wilhelm von)
1883-1945. Austrian composer. A pupil of
Schoenberg, whose 12-tone technique he
adopted. He wrote works of extreme brevity;
for example, the oratorio Das Augenlicht
1935, and songs to words by Stefan George and
poems of Rilke.
